Singapore finance minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said in a statement that the immediate task of the IMF is to stay fully operational in its engagements around the world. Tharman said the capabilities and professionalism of IMF staff "would assure us of this."

Tharman is the chairman of the IMF's International Monetary and Financial Committee. He has not spoken publicly since Strauss-Kahn was arrested in New York on Saturday on sexual assault charges.
