Toyota is recalling tens of thousands of cars in Britain amid a mounting crisis over faulty accelerator pedals, media reported on Thursday.
A total of 180,865 vehicles are affected by the recall, according to newspaper reports, and the Japanese auto giant said it concerned seven models dating back to 2005.
"It has been identified that there is a small risk of an accelerator pedal fault in certain Toyota models," said the company in a statement on its British website.
"We are voluntarily recalling specific models from the range to investigate and eliminate the problem. Customer safety has always been the primary focus for Toyota, and understandably never more so than now."
