Wal-Mart CEO Duke hopeful 'things will work out in India'

Walmart chief executive officer Mike Duke has said he will be 'patient' and is confident that things will get worked out in India for the company, amid the political uproar in India. HT reports.

Walmart CEO Mike Duke said Tuesday night he was confident "things will get worked out" in India eventually. The retail giant is fighting criticism of its lobbying activities.

"I am patient and I believe that over time the process will get worked out in India and that we can help people live a better life in India also," Duke said at a think tank event in New York.

Walmart is fighting impression that it unlawfully lobbied to open India's mutli-brand retail sector to foreign direct investment. Walmart is in joint venture with Bharati in India.

The company has defended lobbying, which is legitimate in the US and even the government of India does that put across its point of view impress US congress and administration.

"I'm confident that's a country that has such an opportunity to help both the farmers, those that are producing product for consumers, all the way through the supply chain to the consumer," Duke said, adding, "The people of India are missing on the opportunity right now, because of the inefficiency of the supply chain and so many of the challenges.
