Police said the victim, Rahul, a student of Class 12 at a school in Dadumajra, was stabbed by the youths near his house when he had gone out for a stroll around 9.45pm along with his friends Deepu and Amit.

When the trio reached a small pond in the area, they entered into a verbal spat with a group of boys already sitting there.

The spat turned ugly and the group of youths took out a knife. Seeing the knife, Rahul’s friends fled the spot, while he was allegedly thrashed and stabbed thrice in the stomach.

The assailants escaped the spot leaving behind Rahul in a pool of blood. Rahul’s friends called his father Chandrabhan and brother Bablu, who informed the police after reaching the spot.

The victim’s family alleged that though the police were informed, they did not come to help them. The family rushed the victim to GMSH, Sector 16, in an auto, but he was declared brought dead. They protested at the hospital and raised slogans against the police for delay in action.

High drama prevailed at the hospital when colony dwellers gathered and joined the protesting family. They claimed that the cops reached the spot one hour late.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated investigation in the matter, while the post-mortem examination will be conducted on Thursday.

Sources said old rivalry could be a reason behind the incident. The outraged dwellers also damaged a police vehicle at Maloya after the incident.
