On Amarinder's allegation that the SAD leader asked the then prime minister Indira Gandhi to order army action, Badal chided Amarinder by saying: "You must be a foolish man to resign from a party that ordered Operation Bluetar and join a party which had advised it."

"Why did you join Shironami Akali Dal under my leadership if you thought we were responsible for Bluestar?," he asked Amarinder in a statement here.

Badal said, "Amarinder wants the world to believe that everyone except Indira was responsible for the tragic Army assault on Darbar Sahib. There is no end to the lies to which Amarinder Singh can resort in his desperation to cover up his own sin of representing the Congress in Amritsar."
