A countrywide bandh called by the BJP to protest against spiralling price rise has failed to evoke response in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.

In Haryana, shops and commercial establishments remained opened at different places, including Panchkula, Hissar, Rohtak and Ambala.

The BJP activists staged a brief sit-in in Rohtak where the shops, however, remained open.

In Punjab, a party spokesman told PTI that they had taken exemption since today was the last day of nomination for elections to Panchayati Rai Institutions to be held on May 12.

Since, the party cadre were busy campaigning for the next week's election the bandh was not possible, he added.

In the Union Territory also the bandh evoked no response as shops and commercial establishments were open.
