Chandigarh: Panjab University students file ragging complaint
An incident of ragging has surfaced at Panjab University after two residents of Girls’ Hostel No 7 alleged that they were harassed by a senior residing in the same hostel.
An incident of ragging has surfaced at Panjab University after two residents of Girls’ Hostel No 7 alleged that they were harassed by a senior residing in the same hostel.
One of the complainants is a second year student of department of law while the other is pursuing MSc in environment sciences. In their complaint, they have alleged that they are being harassed by a PhD scholar.
After receiving the complaint, the PU authorities swung into action and convened a meeting of the ragging committee to look into the matter.
When contacted, dean students welfare (women) Prof Nandita Singh confirmed to have received a complaint of ragging.
She further said that the committee is probing the matter and will submit its report in the next few days.
DSW (men) Prof Navdeep Goyal said that the university has zero tolerance towards ragging and if the allegations are found to be true then appropriate action would be taken.
Ragging is punishable and University Grants Commission (UGC) has framed stringent guidelines to root out ragging in any form from universities, colleges and other educational institutions.
