Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Punjab, the Chandigarh municipal corporation was caught on the wrong foot on Sunday when its hoardings for the Martyrs Day celebrations showed American army personnel.

In a major goof up, the posters put up by the municipal corporation showed a picture of three US soldiers instead of Indian army men. Interestingly, the picture has been tampered with and flipped to hide the US flags.

City mayor Poonam Sharma says she is not aware of this goof up. But she added that no army officer had objected to this faux pas despite getting the invitation cards for the event. Moreover, the designing and printing has been done by Assistant Public Relation officer of the civic body.

The civic body has organised this function to honour the war widows on the occasion of Martyrs' Day.

Brigadier Harwant Singh (retd), president, All India Defence Brotherhood, said, "It can only happen in India. They do not know what is happening. It is very embarrassing. One day they can use pictures of Pakistani soldiers too."
