Chandigarh: Prohibitory orders on use of calcium carbide for ripening of fruits

UT deputy commissioner SB Deepak Kumar on Saturday issued prohibitory orders on the use of calcium carbide for ripening of fruits with immediate effect. Despite ban over its use, the calcium carbine - its usage can even cause cancer - is being used in the UT.

Imposing Section 144 of the CrpC, the DC said there should be complete ban on the use of calcium carbide, which is being for ripening of fruits by many fruit sellers within the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.

"The order should be promulgated by announcement through publicity vans and by affixing copies of the order at the notice boards of the office of the district magistrate, district courts, and in newspapers,"said a release from the DC office.
