The police are verifying the complaint of a Nayagaon resident who claimed that he was robbed of Rs 2.5 lakh after someone threw red chilli powder in his eyes.
The complainant,Mandeep Singh, said he was robbed when he was going back home from the SBI branch located at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). He said the server was down at the bank branch when he went to deposit the money.
He said he was on his scooter when some unidentified persons stopped him and snatched away the money after throwing chilli powder in his eyes.
Mandeep said Rs 2.5 lakh was in the glove box of the scooter, while he had kept Rs 50,000 in his pocket. Mandeep said he had collected the money by selling sand and bricks.
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh police are verifying his claims.DSP Ashish Kapoor said they came to know about the server being down at the bank on Wednesday afternoon but the bank officials said no such problem was there.
The police will also look at the CCTV footage of the bank. A case has been registered in this connection.
