The Punjab government has decided that government employees and pensioners and their dependents would be eligible to claim reimbursement of medical expenditure from insurance agencies and the government as well.

A government spokesman on Friday said such reimbursement shall be subject to the condition that the employee, pensioner and dependent concerned will first claim insurance from the company and thereafter submit medical bills to the government, which may reimburse only the differential amount between the total amount of bills and the payment made by the company, with the condition that the payment allowed by the government may not exceed the admissible amount as per government reimbursement rates.
The spokesman said this revised policy had been framed keeping in mind the interest of lakhs of employees who have also subscribed to medical insurance policies at their own expense.
