The directions came from the division bench headed by acting chief justice Jasbir Singh on a petition filed by Harmel Singh, former sarpanch of Jassomajara village.

The petitioner said if the crossing was closed, it would compel around 65,000 residents of nine villages located by the railway line to travel an additional distance of 10 km for crossing the railway line daily. The petitioner requested the court to direct the railway authorities to make it a manned railway crossing instead.
