With 98% marks, Hoshiarpur girl Nivedita topped the northern region in ICSE Class X exams, the results of which was declared by the Council for The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CICSE) on Wednesday.

Currently pursing non-medical stream in Chandigarh, Nivedita dreams of becoming a scientist. “Most of the students end up enrolling for IITs and other prestigious institutions after clearing the entrance exams. I, however, wish to enroll in Indian Institute of Science in Banglore and start my career in scientific research,” says the 16-year-old student from St Joseph’s Convent School, Hoshiarpur.

“I think my heart lies in research. I know it is a long journey, but I am ready for it,” added Nivedita, who is looking forward to do BSc (Hons) in physics, followed by research in relevant subject.

For her, achieving this feat was difficult but not impossible. “I think consistency and hard work paid me. I focused on understanding the concept rather than memorising it,” she added.

She secured 100 marks in Maths and Science and 99 marks in Physics and Social Studies. However, she could manage only 92 in English. “Two-three extra marks in English could have made me a national topper. But I am really happy for whatever I have achieved,” said Nivedita.

As per reports, Shreyas Sudhaman and Apoorva Narayanswamy (Bangalore) Siddhartha Shankar Kahali (Jamshedpur) and Rishabh Raj (Rourkela) were the toppers across the country with a score of 98.60 per cent.

In the northern region, Delhi girl Riya Singh stood second with 97.8% marks, while Ronnie Mondal of Haryana secured the third spot with 97% marks.

A total of 52,740 students appeared for the ICSE exams in the northern region, which registered the overall pass percentage of 97.49%.

With total enrollment of 26,786 students, Southern region registered the highest pass percentage of 99.59% in the country.

Overall pass Percentage was recorded at 98.28%.
