In a first, EC deputes 5 police observers for Haryana polls
Chief election commissioner VS Sampath on Saturday said for the first time it has been decided to depute five police observers to ensure fair and assembly elections in Haryana.chandigarh Updated: Oct 05, 2014 12:15 IST
Stating that the Election Commission would try to get maximum possible force from the Centre for the October 15 polls, Sampath who was addressing a press conference shortly after holding meetings with political parties and state government officials, said more participation of electors was expected, which might be more than 80% this time.
There were 2,665 sensitive booths and 2,700 hypersensitive booths in the state this time, he said. He added that the commission had taken a major voter facilitation initiative according to which polling would start at 7am and continue till 6pm on the polling day.
He said the commission had directed that a singlewindow system should be made functional to issue permissions. Voter slips would be distributed ahead of the poll day.
On the action to be taken on the election campaign by the INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala, he said it was for the court to take cognisance of the matter.
