Local MP inaugurates solar powerplant at govt college
A 210 kilowatts peak (kwp) rooftop solar photovoltaic power plant, an initiative of the society for renewal energy, science and technology, Chandigarh, was inaugurated by local member of Parliament (MP) Kirron Kher at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, UT secretary science and technology BS Bhalla said the administration was aiming to develop the city as a modern solar city.
"Chandigarh has acclaimed third position in India for setting up rooftop solar power plants and is a premier government institution that has installed this grid tied rooftop powerplant. The cost of this project is Rs2.27 crore that will generate 2.73 lakh unit of electricity per annum,"he added.
Kirron Kher encouraged and motivated the college students to harness their energy into something constructive for the betterment of the nation. She concluded her speech with the message that renewal energy is the basic goal of the Central government to make the environment more sustainable.
