Major fire at Punjab finance dept’s office, record room burnt
A major fire broke out at Directorate of Institutional Finance and Banking, Government of Punjab, in Sector 17, Chandigarh, on Friday. The second-floor office was gutted in fire burning the record room with only a few partlyburnt files being recovered from the cupboards. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

A watchman deputed at the directorate informed Police Control Room, after which five fire emergency service vans reached the spot and controlled the fire.
Pradeep Kumar, deputy director of finance department, Punjab, said, “The fire broke out at around 5am. An official called me in the wee hours and told about the fire.”
Kumar said most of the record papers were scanned and uploaded on their official website, and the rest of the documents will have to be reconstructed.
