In his second meeting with the governor in two days, Makkar apprised Solanki of the functioning of the SGPC and demanded an immediate solution to the issue of a separate gurdwara body in Haryana.

“I told him (Solanki) that the Akal Takht is the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs and the Takht edict is binding on every Sikhs,” Makkar told HT on the phone.

Makkar also conveyed to Solanki that the SGPC is the elected body of the Sikhs. On Sunday, Makkar and other leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal met Solanki, demanding a review of the legislation passed by the Haryana assembly last month against the provisions of the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1925.
