A 22-year-old man, who had an affair with a woman, was strangulated to death allegedly by her father and brother at their house in Valtoha village of Tarn Taran district, police said on Sunday.

Victim Malkiat Singh alias Bittu of Noorwala village in Bhikhiwind subdivision, who was in love with Ramandeep Kaur, was killed by her father Jarnail Singh and brother Arshdeep Singh.

The accused have been booked under Section 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Valtoha police station. The woman has also been booked for collusion.

Station house officer (SHO) Sukhdev Singh said the accused were booked on the complaint of deceased’s maternal uncle Nishan Singh.

“My nephew had been in love with Ramandeep Kaur. On Saturday, Malkiat had gone to meet her at Valtoha, but didn’t return home. We searched him everywhere, but to no avail,” Nishan told the police.

He said, “On Sunday morning, we reached the accused’s house and found my nephew’s dead body lying on the ground.”

“Ramandeep had called Malkiat to her home at the behest of his father and brother, who later killed him,” he alleged.

The SHO said that as per the preliminary investigations, Malkiat entered the accused’s home at around 11:30 pm. “As soon as he entered the house, he was caught by Ramandeep’s father and brother. The duo strangulated him to death and fled the spot.”

He said the victim had been talking to Ramandeep over phone for the past few a days.

The body of the deceased has been sent to Patti civil hospital for postmortem, the SHO said while adding that efforts were on to arrest the accused.
