Over three weeks after the police announced an award for anyone giving lead in the robbery at a Sector-22 jewellery shop, the award money has been increased.

The Chandigarh police had on August 5 announced `50,000 award on any kind of information after releasing the robber’s picture and circulating it to various states. But so far the police have not been able to track the robber. As a result, they have increased the prize money to `75,000. The robber had shot at the salesman, Paramjit Singh alias Sonu, 38, before escaping with three trays of gold chains from Karan Jewellers on August 4. Though the robber was caught on the CCTV camera installed at the jewellery shop, the Chandigarh police continue to grope in the dark about his whereabouts.

A senior police officer said “We are putting in all efforts but have not been able to catch him. The robber is suspected to have changed his appearance as a result people are not able to identify him.”

The Chandigarh police had sent teams to different parts of Haryana, Punjab and even Himachal Pradesh to nab the accused, and questioned more than 100 people, including gym instructors and bouncers, as the robber appeared to be a body builder.
