Officials meet EPCA to devise ways to control smog levels

With the aim to devise measures to deal with th high smog levels in the region, the Environment Pollution Control Authority would meet the officials of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana today.

With the aim to devise measures to deal with th high smog levels in the region, the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) would meet the officials of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana on Saturday.

As per reports, scientists, environmentalists and other officials from Punjab Haryana and Delhi are expected to attend the meeting.

The smog is not only limited to Delhi, but has also engulfed the neighbouring states of punjab, haryana and Uttar Pradesh and is also slowly spreading to others western states like Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The central pollution Control Board( air pollution monitoring data has shown rise of particular matter that is causing the smog in the region.

"It is spreading like a slow epidemic," a boards's senior scientists said.

The smog levels in cities of Punjab such as Jalandhar,Ludhiana and Amritsar is high, with respirable suspended particulate matter(RSPM) being above 500 micro grams per cubic metre, five times in national standard.
