One-year jail for youth held guilty of molestation

The special court for crime against women also imposed a fine `9,000 on the convict, Manoj Kumar, a resident of Badheri.

The 16-year old victim had approached the police on July 5 accusing Manoj, a professional club-level cricketer, of passing lewd comments and sexually harassing her, besides forcing her to sit on his motorcycle. She had also accused him of threatening her of dire consequences.

Manoj's claims of being falsely implicated in the case failed to impress the court. He had claimed that he was known to the girl, who had tried to blackmail him.
