Panjab University student elections on August 26

Starting the countdown to Panjab University’s (PU) student elections, UT home secretary Anurag Aggarwal approved August 26 as the date on which colleges affiliated with PU will go to polls.

Starting the countdown to Panjab University’s (PU) student elections, UT home secretary Anurag Aggarwal approved August 26 as the date on which colleges affiliated with PU will go to polls.

The code of conduct, which is drawn from Lyngdoh guidelines, will now be implemented across the colleges.

Earlier, the elections were scheduled to take place on August 28 but students’ bodies protested against it as August 29 was Raksha Bandhan. Mmebers of the student parties feared a low voter turnout and asked the authorities to advance the date of election so that more number of students could their vote.

The filing of nominations on campus will start on August 19 and scrutiny will also take place on the same day. Candidates can withdraw nominations by 12 noon on August 20.

The final list of candidates will be declared on the same date.

The voting will start on August 26 at 9:30 am and will go on till 11 am at the respective departments of the students. The voting for department representatives and Panjab University Campus Students’ Council will take place together.

The ballot boxes containing votes for students' council will be tranferred to the universities gymanasium hall for centralised counting.
