PGI starts delivery biochemistry reports online

Now patients at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh can access their reports pertaining to biochemistry examinations online.
The department of biochemistry which caters to maximum number of diagnostic tests has started the facility. The biochemistry department conducts around 12,000 to 14,000 tests daily. The samples for these tests are taken from operation theatres, indoor patients and OPD patients.
According to the PGIMER, this Web based facility is available in very secure manner by generating one time password (OTP) for the registered mobile number of the patient and same can be accessed by entering Cr. No. and Receipt No. of the payment made for the patient. "Provision of viewing investigation report of New OPD patients through PGIMER web portal i.e. www.pgimer.edu.in for Biochemistry Lab is another step in this direction," said the PGIMER press release.
"This lab caters to a major proportion of the Biochemistry investigation/tests being undertaken by PGIMER. With the launch of this facility, reports of the tests will be available on PGIMER web portal for viewing from anywhere anytime for last fifteen days," said a PGIMER press release.
"Patients will get respite from difficult task of getting the paper based lab investigation report for Biochemistry Tests. More labs will be added soon," said PGIMER official spokesperson.
Significantly, the PGIMER has been focusing on implementing the computerized patient related services for past several years.
Now a similar system is being planned for hametology and microbiology examinations.
In December 2013, the institute had launched a software module, under which reports of the biochemistry tests conducted by the biochemistry lab are available for doctors' viewing from anywhere at the institute. The institute is also working on developing a system of sending the reports by SMS to the patients.
