The counsel for Punjab cabinet minister and BJP MLA Anil Joshi has sought more time to file a reply on a petition challenging his election in the 2012 assembly polls.
The Punjab and Haryana high court had on November 3 issued a notice of motion to Joshi, minister for local bodies as well as medical education and research, seeking a reply by November 25.
However, soon after the hearing started on Tuesday, his counsel told the court that Joshi be given more time to file a reply. Following his submissions, the court adjourned the hearing to December 18.
Amritsar lawyer Vaneet Mahajan had approached the court seeking Joshi’s disqualification on the grounds that the latter was not a voter on any electoral list in Punjab. Enumerators had not found his name on the enumeration card but it was inserted at the time of printing electoral rolls after intensive revision for 2005-06, the petitioner had submitted.
