President of the All-India Mid-day Meal Worker Union Sukhdev Ram Sharma Gholia on Tuesday said Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has taken up the issue of increase of salary of mid-day meal workers to Rs 3,500 per month with the Union human resource minister Smriti Irani through a letter.

Badal has assured to contribute state’s monthly share of `850 per worker, he added. Sharma said his organisation had been constantly struggling to protect the rights of the mid-day workers and thus, convinced Badal to take up this issue with Irani.
