The report was submitted before the division bench headed by justice Rajive Bhalla during the resumed hearing of a petition filed by a Chandigarh resident, Gurbir Singh Pannu.

The SIT headed by inspector general of police Nirmal Singh Dhillon had filed its first interim report before the court in a sealed cover in September last year, which has not been opened till now.

The petitioner had informed the court that despite the ban imposed by the high court, illegal mining was continuing in the state without any check, causing a loss of around RS 10,000 crore per year to the exchequer.

The case would now come up for hearing on January 28 for arguments.
