Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Anil Kumar Yadav, who heads the SIT, said though the police had sufficient evidence to prove the crime in court, the DNA test was an key proof.
Dharmender Barak and Nidhi Barak were murdered on September 18. Sources said that generally in such cases, both parties (families of girl and boy) entered into a compromise, leaving the police helpless. But if the paternity of the girl's father was proved, he could be penalised on its basis, sources said.
