A day after four unidentified men robbed a Hindustan Machine Tools Limited (HMT) employee, 52, of Rs 4 lakh in Pinjore, police issued a notice to Punjab National Bank for lax security arrangements. Meanwhile, police have procured photographs of all four accused involved in the crime.

The incident had taken place on the HMT premises on Monday when victim Mangat Ram Sharma went to the PNB branch to withdrew the money, which he said was meant for his daughter's marriage. Chinks in the bank's security arrangement came to the fore when the victim was robbed minutes after he withdrew the cash.

The notice has been issued by deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Hamid Akhtar, directing the bank management to take corrective steps.

It is pertinent to mention that the bank had no security guard, while the close circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the bank were not functioning properly, and weren't being monitored in the real time.

In absence of the security guard, one of the four accused came inside the bank, without any check, and remained inside the bank till the victim withdrew the cash.

Police on several occasions have requested traders and banks to take appropriate security arrangements by installing CCTVs and appointing trained security staff.

Photographs released

On the basis of CCTV footage, police have procured photographs of all four accused involved in the crime, and even rounded up two for questioning on Tuesday. In this regard, a police team has also been dispatched to Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh.

No taker for police security service

After a 63-year-old man was robbed of `9.80 lakh on March 30, police had launched a security service for the city residents to carry large amount of money from one place to another. Surprisingly, till now, no one has approached police for availing the service.

The DCP said, "To avail the service, a person needs to inform us, and he/she will be escorted by a police control-room van or a motorcycle."
