Strict action against cops demanded

The Media Foundation, Haryana, has condemned the assault on journalists by some policemen while they were covering the clash between the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) and police at Kurukshetra on August 6. Foundation chairman Baljit Singh demanded an inquiry by an independent agency and strict action against the cops thus found guilty.

Singh said it was unfortunate that on one hand, the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government had announced a pension scheme for veteran journalists, on the other hand the Haryana Police were treating mediapersons in this manner.

"If the Hooda government was indeed interested in the welfare of mediapersons, it should make all-out efforts to give severe punishment to the cops who assaulted mediapersons at Kurukshetra and also give adequate compensation to the injured," he added.
