Suspended IG files anticipatory bail plea

Suspended inspector general of police (IGP) Gautam Cheema filed an anticipatory bail application in a local court here on Tuesday in connection with two cases registered against him. Cheema has been accused of abducting a proclaimed offender and molestation.

Suspended inspector general of police (IGP) Gautam Cheema filed an anticipatory bail application in a local court here on Tuesday in connection with two cases registered against him. Cheema has been accused of abducting a proclaimed offender and molestation.

Reacting to the application, additional district and sessions judge Tarsem Mangla sent a notice to the police to provide details of the case, and did not stay the arrrest of the accused.

The police have to file the reply on both cases on the next date of hearing on September 29.

In the bail application, Cheema mentioned cases against alleged conman Davinder Gill and the complaints against Kricpy Khaira, who has accused him of molestation.

Meanwhile, the Punjab police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) led by inspector general (IG) Patiala range Paramdeep Singh Gill; the team also has DIG Nirlabh Kishore and SSP Inder Mohan Singh as members. Gill has sought the case details from the SAS Nagar SSP regarding both cases registered against Cheema and others.
