Two youths drowned in river

Two youths from Kot Kachua Khurd village were drowned in Tangri river Monday when they had gone to bathe in the river along with their two friends.

Two youths from Kot Kachua Khurd village were drowned in Tangri river Monday when they had gone to bathe in the river along with their two friends.


While the body of Jitender (23) was recovered near the Jansui headworks close to Lalan village on Tuesday, a hectic search operation is on to trace Rinku (22).

The body was found floating 8 km away from the spot where the youths were bathing.

The other two youths accompanying them, Gurjant and Sajan, raised an alarm after Jitender and Rinku did not return.

Locals said the incident occurred at around 6 pm, but no one from the administration reached the spot for two hours. The search operation was suspended in the evening due to poor visibility and will resume on Wednesday morning. Divers and boats have been engaged to trace the other missing youth.

Jitender was a mason and Rinku a labourer. Residents said the water level of the river had suddenly gone up after heavy rain in the hills.
