On August 7, 2013, Central Bureau of Investigation nabbed Dhir while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from Patiala resident Harpreet Singh at the department's office in Sector 34.
Harpreet Singh, a contractor, claimed that he was commissioned to lay water pipes in Parli village in Rupnagar district. Dhir had allegedly demanded Rs 1.3 lakh to clear Singh's dues of Rs 30 lakh, pending with the sanitary equipment supply department.
Singh then approached the CBI, who then laid a trap for Dhir. The official was arrested while he was allegedly accepting the first installment of the bribe.
