The HC bench of justice Anupinder Singh Grewal acted on a letter — seeking extension of time — from districts courts, Chandigarh, where trial is underway and in its last leg. The prosecution and defence, both have concluded their arguments. The letter was written on September 17.

In April 2018, the high court had asked the trial court to expedite the matter and decide the case within five months. However, several extensions have been granted by HC after that.
