A woman allegedly immolated herself in Bundelkhand’s Damoh district on Friday. In her dying declaration, she claimed that her three daughters were engulfed by flames while they tried to save her.
The incident occurred in Damoh’s Mosipura Village under Nauhta police station.
According to police, when Rani Bai, 28 set herself aflame, other family members had gone to their farmland. However her three daughters were nearby, they said.
Nauhta Police station officer in-charge Satyendra Rajput said the woman in her dying declaration told police that she took the extreme step as she was suffering from a stomach ailment.
“In her statement, she said when her daughters saw her in flames, they came to rescue her but were engulfed in flames and died”, he said, adding, “investigation will make things more clear in the coming time”.
All the four were rushed to the district hospital Damoh. “But her three daughters, Muskan ,7, Mansi, 5 and Tulsabai, 2, died of severe burn injuries while Rani Bai in a serious condition was referred to the Jabalpur hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries in the evening.
Meanwhile local sources revealed that the family was financially not in a good condition and the woman was in tension for having three daughters.
