Chairperson of Bathinda Improvement Trust KK Aggarwal on Monday resigned from his post and asked the Congress to introspect about its debacle in the district, implying that sidelining of party’s old timers led to its fall in its stronghold.
KK Aggarwal, who resigned from the post of Bathinda Improvement Trust chairperson.
Aggarwal, who is a member of the Congress party, blamed the party leadership for a humiliating defeat in the district where its candidate Manpreet Singh Badal faced defeat by over 63,000 votes.
“The Congress lost with a shocking margin and the party needs to introspect and identify who all were responsible for a political debacle from Congress’ stronghold,” he said.
While announcing his resignation, Aggarwal hinted at a close relative of a former minister for sidelining Congress’ old guards in the district.
Aggarwal said Congress activists have felt demoralised for the last five years as the district party office remained locked and political activities were organised from a parallel complex.
He said the party leaders were ignored while selecting Raman Goyal as a mayor in February 2021.
“Before her candidature for municipal corporation elections, I never saw her active in Congress. It was a surprise when her name was finalised for mayor in a closed-door meeting,” he said. ENDS
