Chandigarh: BMW driver arrested for killing 2-wheeler rider

A 24-year-old BMW driver, Aftab Singh of Mohali, was arrested hours after he allegedly mowed down a motorcycle rider near Ram Darbar, resulting in the rider’s death on Monday morning.
The accused was later released on bail, police said. (HT File)

According to the police, Singh had rushed the injured rider, Pratham, an IT professional to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where doctors declared the victim brought dead.
The BMW involved in the accident was impounded from the spot. During the investigation, police found that the car was registered in the name of another person in Mohali.
Police said the registered owner is a friend of the accused and had lent him the vehicle. The owner will also be called in for questioning as part of the investigation, they added.
Officials said Aftab was between jobs. He had previously worked at a club and had also lived in Italy.
