Chandigarh Police nab drug peddler, seize 40 gm heroin

The crime branch of Chandigarh Police has arrested an Amritsar-based drug peddler following the disclosure of one of his accomplices who was arrested on October 19.

The accused used to procure drugs from across the border and further supplied it to consumers or drug addicts besides local drug peddlers, said SP Ketan Bansal, adding that more arrests will be made soon in the case. (Getty image)

The 34-year-old accused, identified as Pawan Kumar, alias Sunny, of Pishori Camp, Khandwala, Amritsar, was arrested on October 21 following the confession of his accomplice Pardeep Kumar, of Guru Nanak Pura, Islamabad, Amritsar. Pawan’s arrest led to the recovery of 40 gm heroin.

Pradeep was earlier caught with 20.75 gm heroin near Sanatan Dharam Mandir Park, Sector 42. He was earlier arrested by Punjab Police in a drug smuggling case and was out on bail.

“Both the accused are part of a big drug smuggling network. They procured drugs from across the border and further supplied it to consumers or drug addicts, besides local drug peddlers,” said SP Ketan Bansal, adding that more arrests will be made soon in the case.
