The district and sessions judge said the married couple had produced a certificate issued by head granthi of a gurdwara, Sarabjeet Singh in Fazilka regarding the marriage. The couple had produced the certificate while seeking protection after they felt threatened by the girl’s family, which had opposed the marriage.
On scrutiny of documents, court found the boy as minor and ordered to register a case against boy, head granthi and president of the gurdwara which issued marriage certificate.
As per law, the marriage of a male cannot be performed before the completion of 21 years of age. Three days ago, in a similar case, three persons, including the same head granthi and president of gurdwara besides a boy were booked for solemnising the wedding of a couple even though boy was a minor.
