Disproportionate assets case: Dharamshala MLA skips vigilance appearance
The agency had registered an FIR against Sharma on July 29 over allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Dharamshala, Sudhir Sharma, did not appear before the vigilance bureau on Thursday, stating that he was not present in Himachal.
The state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (SV&ACB) had summoned him to appear before the investigating officer at the SV&ACB police station in Dharamshala on August 13 in connection with an FIR registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The agency had registered an FIR against Sharma on July 29 over allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The legislator has rejected the allegations.
Sharma said, “I was unable to appear in person on Thursday, as I am not in Himachal Pradesh at present. I have informed the bureau that I will appear before them on August 18. I am ready to cooperate with the investigation and have nothing to hide. I have full faith in the Constitution.”
Earlier, Sharma had termed the action against him as an “act of political vendetta by the present Congress government”. The notice issued by the bureau has directed Sharma to provide, at the time of appearance, the documents and records relating to his declared income, sale of land, construction of a residential house at Rakkar, vehicles, investments, bank accounts and other financial transactions.
He has also been asked to submit a declaration of movable and immovable assets held by him and his family members. The notice states that failure to appear or provide the required documents may invite action under law.
