Eight establishments get notices for violating fire safety norms in Ludhiana

The fire department on Wednesday issued inspection notices to eight establishments, including commercial complexes, hospitals and a coaching centre, situated on Gill road and adjoining areas for violating fire safety norms.

The team of firefighters led by fire station officer (FSO) Maninder Singh served notices under section 3 of The Punjab Fire Safety Measures Prevention and Control of Fire Act, 2012.

The inspection drive was launched to ensure that the owners have installed proper fire safety equipment in their respective buildings. The owners have also been directed to obtain the fire safety no-objection certificate (NOC) from the department.

FSO Singh stated that notices have been served and site inspection will be conducted at the respective buildings after three days to check whether the owners have made proper fire safety arrangements or not.

If anomalies are found at the site, they will be given a time period to take corrective steps. If they still failed to make proper fire safety arrangements, action will be taken against them as per the norms wherein the building can also be sealed by the authorities.

Singh stated that the drive has been initiated on the directions of MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal to ensure fire safety in the city, the industrial hub of the state. Notices will also be served against the commercial and industrial establishments in other parts of the city in future.

The MC Commissioner appealed to the residents to obtain NOC from the fire brigade to ensure fire safety at workplaces. The residents can apply for fire safety NOC online at firenoc.lgpunjab.gov.in.
