Luhdiana: Woman among four held for drug peddling

The anti-narcotic cell 1 of police commissionerate arrested four persons, including a woman, in three separate cases of drug peddling. The team also recovered a total of 165 gm heroin and 500 gm opium from the possession of the accused.

The arrested accused have been identified as Abhishek Bhatti, 24, of Balmiki Nagar, Shekhar, 25, of Guru Nanak Nagar, Sukhpal Singh alias Sukhi, 40, of Sangrur and Simranjeet Kaur of Madhya Pradesh.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP investigation) Harmeet Singh Hundal said that the police nabbed Abhishek while patrolling in Balmiki Nagar area and recovered 125g heroin, 25 empty pouches and an electronic weighing machine from his possession on frisking. The accused was booked under Sections 21-B, 61 and 85 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Daresi police station. Hundal said the accused is already facing an FIR under NDPS Act at Daresi police station.

Another team of anti-narcotic cell stopped Shekhar at a checkpoint put up in Arjun Colony. When frisked, 40g heroin was recovered from his possession. A case under relevant sections of NDPS Act was registered against him at Jodhewal police station.

Further, the DCP said that a checkpoint had been put up near Dhyan Singh Complex, near Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar inter-state bus terminal. Here, the police stopped Sukhpal Singh for checking and recovered 500g of opium from his possession. During questioning, the police nominated Simranjeet Kaur in the FIR and arrested her later. A case under Sections 18-B, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Division Number-5 police station.

E-rickshaw driver held for drug peddling

A special task force (STF) team arrested an e-rickshaw driver for drug peddling and recovered 350 gm heroin from his possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ravinder Singh alias Raja, 30, of Amritsar, who is presently residing in a rented accommodation in Mahadev Nagar in Giaspura.

STF Ludhiana in-charge Inspector Harbans Singh said the team received information that the accused is carrying a bag containing heroin and is headed towards Shimlapuri for supplying the contraband.

The team stopped the accused for checking near Arora cut traffic lights and recovered 350 gm heroin from his bag.

A case under Section 21 of NDPS Act was registered against the accused at STF police station in Mohali.

During questioning, the accused said that he has been peddling drugs for a year. The accused said that he used to procure the drugs from an Amritsar resident and supply it among the addicts in Ludhiana. The team is trying to trace the accused’s drug supplier.
