In another accident near Una town, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus skids, overturns, injuring four people

A woman and her six-year-old son were killed after being run over by a truck at Nanawin village in Bangana sub division of Una district on Tuesday.

The woman’s husband was injured in the accident. The victims were returning after paying obeisance at Baba Balak Nath Temple in Hamirpur.

State Disaster Management Authority director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta said the woman was identified as Swarna Kaur, 33, a resident of Bhabhour village in Rajpura in Patiala district of Punjab, and her son, Vanshpreet.

The woman’s husband, Karnail Singh, has been admitted to the Regional Hospital, Una.

Police said that the motorcycle skidded and Swaran Kaur and her son fell on the road, while Karnail Singh fell to the other side. A speeding truck coming from Bangana side ran over the mother and son, killing them on the spot.

A case of rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence was registered against the truck driver.

In another accident in the district, four people suffered minor injuries after a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) bus skidded and overturned at Panoh near Una town. The accident took place around 9:30am.

There were eight people on board, including the driver and conductor. The bus was on its way from Chandigarh to Una.

The injured were rushed to the Regional Hospital at Una, where their condition is stated to be stable.

The other passengers escaped unhurt.

A police team was at the spot to ascertain the cause of the accident.
