According to reliable sources, party national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister-designate Bhagwant Mann will soon be campaigning in the two states.
So far, the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress are in a direct contest in both Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. Two days ago, the AAP had announced to contest elections on all 68 seats in Himachal Pradesh apart from fielding candidates in the upcoming civic polls in Shimla. Emboldened by the success in the Surat municipal elections, the Kejriwal-led party also sees a glimmer of opportunity in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home turf Gujarat.
“As far as Himachal is concerned, it borders Punjab, where the AAP just swept the assembly polls. The AAP is hopeful that the wave of Punjab will also reach the hill state,” said the source.
The AAP registered a landslide victory in the Punjab polls, winning 92 seats in the 117-member assembly. While the Congress got 18 seats, the Shiromani Akali Dal alliance was reduced to four and the BJP to two.
