The chief minister, who paid floral tributes to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on his martyrdom day at his native village Khatkar Kalan, said that this day reminds us of the supreme sacrifice made by this great hero at the altar of motherland.
He said that the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev will ever inspire us to rise against any form of injustice, tyranny and oppression.
“It is the moral duty of all of us to wage war against all form of social maladies prevailing in the society,” he said.
The chief minister said that the state government is leaving no stone unturned for cherishing the aspirations of the great martyrs.
“Young hero of freedom struggle had sacrificed his life at a young age for emancipating the country from clutches of foreign imperialism,” he said.
He said that even after passing off more than 75 years of independence, the country is combatting issues like poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and others.
“Our government has already made several efforts to give succour to people from these maladies,” he asserted.
The CM said that the state government has decided to construct a heritage street here at the native village of Bhagat Singh to showcase the glorious contribution of Punjab and Punjabis in national freedom struggle.
He said that this 850 metre long heritage street will be constructed existing from the museum to the ancestral house of Shaheed Bhagat Singh at Khatkar Kalan.
The chief minister also announced that a 5-D set-up of the court will be designed in the Shaheed Bhagat singh museum at Khatkar Kalan.
“This will virtually take the visitors back to that era and perpetuate the supreme sacrifice made by this young hero for the country,” he said.
Hussainiwala memorial to get facelift: CM Mann
The chief minister, while interacting with media persons at national martyr memorial, situated 11 km away from Ferozepur, after paying to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev on their 92nd martyrdom day, said that this place is sacred for every countrymen as the mortal remains of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev after their martyrdom were cremated unceremoniously by the Britishers here.
He said that this place has been inspiring the youth of the country for selfless service towards the nation. Mann said that the state government is preparing a blue print for the comprehensive development of this place so as to facilitate thousands of pilgrims coming daily to offer their tributes to the martyrs.
Aimed at encouraging the youth for selfless service of society, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday conferred six youth with Shaheed Bhagat Singh youth award .
The CM handed over this award to six youth including Navjot Kaur (Barnala), Manoj Kumar (Mansa), Beant Kaur (Bathinda), Omkar Mohan Singh (Rupnagar), Gurjot Singh Kaler (Mohali) and Sukhdeep Kaur (Bathinda). Congratulating these youth, Bhagwant Mann expressed hope that these youth will play a constructive role in the well-being of the society.
Mann further said that his government has decided to resume Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yuva award in the state which were presented to the youth on Thursday.He bemoaned that this award was stopped around seven years back but has been resumed now.
Mann also launched a new scheme “Khed Maidaan, Har Pind Di Pehchaan” conceived by the district administration to construct a sports stadium in every village. He said that this will help in channelising the unbounded energy of youth in the positive direction.
Confer Bharat Ratna on Bhagat Singh: Sahney
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Vikramjit Sahney on Thursday urged the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna on Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. Sahney made the demand in a letter to Union home minister Amit Shah. He said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh made supreme sacrifice while mobilising the youth towards the national struggle for freedom of the country. “It will be a befitting tribute to the youth icon who sacrificed his life at a young age,” the Rajya Sabha member from Punjab said.
