Mentally ill siblings rescued from Ambala Cantt village
The NGO with the help of another social group, Vande Mataram Dal reached Ambala during the weekend to check on the mentally ill brother-sister duo, who was living at their deserted house in Ambala Cantt’s Boh village, and rescue them.
A mentally unstable brother-sister duo, who was living at their deserted house in Ambala Cantonment’s Boh village, were rescued by a Punjab-based NGO last week. They were given a makeover by the society members and now their recent images are winning hearts on social media.
The development came to light when the residents of the village sent several videos to Manukhta Di Sewa Society in Ludhiana detailing the ordeals of the duo from the last several years.
The NGO with the help of another social group, Vande Mataram Dal reached Ambala during the weekend to check on them and rescue them.
They are currently living with other homeless or orphans at Supneya Da Ghar, a community stay run by the NGO in the city, but have not spoken about their lives to the rescuers, it has been learnt.
Gurpreet Singh, founder of the NGO, said he was shocked to see the pitiable living conditions of Anil Kumar and his sister Indu Rani.
The two were able to survive as they were regularly given food by their neighbours. However, they looked emaciated and even were unable to walk when they were rescued.
The NGO was informed by their neighbours that they have been living in this place for the last 20 years, after the death of their father, Suraj Prakash, a renowned BAMS doctor.
“Indu had done her B.Ed and MA and was a tutor, while Sunil, a high school graduate, had worked for a private company several years ago. Their other sister Kusam also used to live with them in the same condition and died several years ago. Their mother, Kamlesh with similar disorder, died in 2020 at the same place,” Gurpreet told the reporters.
He was told by the neighbours that they are well-off, but it was Suraj Prakash’s death after which the family’s health conditions deteriorated and except him all suffered from the same disorder.
“They will be treated at our place and their medical reports will be shared on social media,” Singh added.
