Ludhiana: Over 39k cases to be heard during National Lok Adalat on Saturday

A total of 16,000 traffic violators have been summoned to the lok adalat in an effort to settle the cases on the same day

As many as 39,800 will be heard during the National Lok Adalat in the court of additional civil judge Radhika Puri (senior division) on Saturday. Various pending cases, including cheque bounce, revenue, divorce and pre-litigative cases, will be heard under the National Negotiable Instrument Act.

A total of 16,000 traffic violators have been summoned to the lok adalat in an effort to settle the cases on the same day. Additionally, 20,000 pre-litigative cases, 1,800 revenue cases, and 2,000 other pending cases will also be heard during the proceedings.

The lok adalat is being organised to clear the pendency of cases and to provide the violators with an opportunity to settle their fines at lower rates.

As per district legal services authority, majority of the traffic challans are issued for driving without helmets or driving licenses.

Previously, 36,865 cases were settled by 28 lok adalat benches on February 11.

Assistant commissioner of police, traffic, Charanjit Singh Lamba said that over 500 challans are every day and lok adalats provide an opportunity for the violators to settle their challans at reduced rates. He added that most violators prefer to settle their challans at lok adalats to save money.
