The Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) has decided to hold a general body meeting (GBM) on January 17.
The decision was taken during an executive meeting of the teachers’ body. As per the agenda issued by PUTA, the immediate release of revised salary as per 7th Pay Commission will be discussed at the meeting.
Although the varsity has initiated the process of revising salaries after adoption of Punjab government notification to implement the UGC revised pay scales, the university has not yet given the benefit of the same to its teachers.
PUTA said that the issue of delay in CAS promotions will also be discussed. Promotion cases under CAS of over 100 teachers are pending at the university in the absence of faculty deans.
The GBM will also take up issues including teachers’ welfare schemes and the issues related to teachers above the age of 60 years.

P’kula admn continues crackdown on illegal mining
Teams led by sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) of Panchkula and Kalka seized two vehicles involved in illegal mining on Tuesday. During an inspection, a team of mining officials and police, headed by Panchkula SDM Mamta Sharma, a truck loaded with raw material was impounded and kept at Chandimandir police station. Similarly, in an inspection headed by SDM Kalka, a tipper loaded with raw material was seized.
Hindu leader receives threat call, FIR lodged
A Kharar-based Hindu leader once again received a threatening phone call. Nishant Sharma, the national president of Shiv Sena (Hindu), who lives in Kharar, said he received a call from an unknown phone number while he was visiting a friend in Sector 11, Panchkula, around 6.40 pm on Monday. The caller threatened to shoot him dead and kidnap his children, he alleged.
