Punjab: SGPC House to take up Mann decree, anti-sacrilege law on June 27

During its general house meeting scheduled on Saturday, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is likely to formalise objections raised regarding the recently enacted Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, besides discussing the Akal Takht’s decree against chief minister Bhagwant Mann over an objectionable video.

The decision to call the session was taken in the SGPC executive committee meeting held on June 20. Speaking to the media after the meeting, president Harjinder Singh Dhami had said the actions shown in the objectionable video had deeply hurt religious sentiments of the Sikh community worldwide.

The meeting is being held ahead of the appearance of Sikh MLAs before the Akal Takht on June 29 to explain their position on the anti-sacrilege law.
