Police have booked several persons in connection with the case from both sides.
Police said the groups pelted stones at each other before some members opened fire. Two bullet shells were recovered from the spot. No injuries were reported. According to officials, the dispute is linked to an ongoing feud between two local youths, Sunil Grewal and Ashish, both residents of the colony. Police said the two had earlier clashed over a minor issue related to parking a garbage cart, which had also led to incidents of vandalism. “Both groups have a history of rivalry. On Sunday, they again confronted each other, leading to stone-pelting and firing,” said inspector Gagandeep Singh, SHO of Division Number 7 police station.
A case has been registered against members of both groups and their associates under charges including attempt to murder, rioting and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
The SHO said raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
