The state government is likely to table an amendment bill for the law, content of which still remains out of public domain. The winter session of the assembly begins on December 22.

The ‘Prevention of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill’ was introduced in the House by Vij earlier this year, days after deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala had showed his resentment over the usage of term “love jihad”. However, the bill was later passed by the assembly in March and became a law thereafter.

“The law has already been passed and rules are being framed. It will be tabled with the Haryana Control of Organised Crime Act (HACOCA) Bill on which objections were raised by the central government and returned,” Vij said.

The minister said this on Monday in Ambala Cantonment, while speaking to reporters on a range of issues.

He also spoke on the unresolved issue of long-pending promotions of cops employed in the Ambala Range. There are three districts in the range – Ambala, Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra.

An IPS officer, on condition of anonymity, said, “Ambala is one of the oldest districts, while places in south Haryana like Gurugram or Faridabad that were earlier part of Rewari range, became commissionerate. This created more police stations that required more personnel and thus they got more promotions, unlike in Ambala where the vacancies too remained low and cops here had to suffer. Changes have been made in the past few years, but there is a huge backlog.”

Vij said that undoubtedly this is a big issue, but he is trying to resolve the grievance since getting the home portfolio in the coalition government in 2019.

“Many policemen getting recruited the same day in the state are serving at different posts. For instance, a policeman is at the post of a hawaldar or an ASI in Ambala, while his batchmate in Gurugram has been promoted to an inspector. We have been working on this extensively, but a lot still needs to be done,” he added.

On the Haryana leg of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, the home minister said that the Wayanad MP will be welcomed to the state and strict security arrangements will be made.
